LeMond's Triomphe Carbon Bicycles!

We're excited to announce LeMond's revolutionary Triomphe Carbon, which is the culmination of Greg LeMond's decades of seeking the ultimate ride. This carbon wonder utilizes LeMond's Minimum/Maximum design for outstanding acceleration, handling and climbing, and excellent compliance for superb comfort and control. Whether you ride for fun, to set personal records or to claim trophies, this gossamer beauty (950 grams for a 55cm) delivers!

 

Technology Story
The centerpiece of LeMond's Triomphe technology is the tube shaping, which allows the tubes to be stiff or forgiving in the correct planes. Think about a 2x4 piece of wood, supported on both ends. If you lay it flat, it's relatively flexible. Now lay it on edge and it's much more rigid. Compare that example to the top tube of a Triomphe carbon bike. It's flexible in one direction, and very stiff in the other. This is how LeMond's Min/Max tubing shapes deliver a whole new level of ride quality.

A. Minimal seatstay yoke thickness. 
     Means: Minimal road vibration.
B. Maximum seatstay yoke width. Means: Maximum lateral stiffness.

Finite Element Analysis
How did LeMond design the unique shapes of the Triomphe Series?
It's the result of a great deal of trial and error with Finite Element Analysis, which is analyzing the forces and corresponding movements of a frame due to the rider inputs of pedaling, leaning, sprinting, plus the inputs from the road. The outcome is a frame that we believe rides like no other.

At left, you can see the results of applying a lateral force to the headset of the industry’s most notoriously stiff frameset.

At right, are the results of the same lateral force to the headset of the LeMond Triomphe Series. Less red area = less frame movement = stiffer frameset in this plane.

 



Bottom Bracket Technology
The bottom bracket shell has a dramatically different look (below, left) than most carbon frames on the market. It's as wide as possible to provide pedaling efficiency, yet it's also as thin as possible, making an immediate transition to the seat tube, reducing material and weight.

C. Maximum bottom bracket width.
     Means: Maximum pedaling efficiency.
D. Minimal bottom bracket thickness.
     Means: Minimal material and weight.


E. Maximum left chainstay width.
     Means: Minimal non-drive chainstay flex.
F. Maximum right chainstay height.
     Means: Minimal driveside chainstay flex.

Asymmetric Chainstays
The left and right chainstays (above, right) experience vastly different forces. To resist the twisting force of the drivetrain, the non-driveside chainstay is as wide as possible. While, the more compressive forces on the driveside stay, essentially trying to pull the dropout to the crankset, are offset by a more vertical stay orientation.

 

Superior Carbon Knowledge
LeMond has the luxury of sharing the same carbon engineers that created Trek OCLV carbon. So, from the first layer of carbon that goes into the mold, every Triomphe is engineered by people that know carbon better than anyone else in the business.

G. Maximum top tube shaping means:
     Minimal head tube deflection.
     Maximum front end stability.
     Minimal steering corrections.


Size Specific Tubing
Another ride enhancing detail is specific tubing diameters for each frame size. A 49cm Triomphe does not need as much material or stiffness as a 61cm. Therefore, LeMond makes the down tube of the 49cm smaller. Likewise the 51cm has a smaller down tube than the 53, and so on. On the other end of the spectrum, a 61cm frame needs to be stiffer and stronger to accomodate larger riders, so LeMond utilizes larger diameter tubing on these frames.
